If you’ve been juggling a SuperGrok bill, a Cursor bill and an X Premium bill every month, here’s some news: the company behind all three just squashed them into one. On October 12, 2026, SpaceX Super Intelligence (SpaceXSI, the outfit formerly known as SpaceXAI) posted a short announcement on X: “We’ve unified plans across Grok, Cursor, and X Premium. Introducing The X Subscription.” That post has racked up more than 5 million views in about a day, so plenty of people are asking the same thing: what do you actually get, and is it worth it?
Let’s break it down in plain English.
What is The X Subscription?
It’s one plan that covers four products: Grok (the chatbot, plus image, video and voice tools), Grok Bot (the always-on AI agent), Cursor (the AI coding editor SpaceXSI acquired in August) and X Premium (the checkmark-and-perks tier on X). According to the official announcement, the company is rolling it out to everyone globally over the next few days.
The big idea is a shared usage pool. Instead of separate limits in each app, every tier comes with one pot of AI usage that Grok and Cursor draw from. Inside Grok, that pool covers Chat, Imagine, Voice, Bot and API access. And the allowance refreshes weekly, so, as the pricing page puts it, one heavy day never wipes out your whole month.
The tiers and prices
There are five individual tiers, including a free one. Here are the US list prices from SpaceXSI’s pricing docs (taxes not included):
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Included usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Limited |
| Plus | $8 | $80/yr (about $7/mo) | Base |
| Premium | $30 | $300/yr (about $25/mo) | 4x Plus |
| Super | $100 | $1,000/yr (about $84/mo) | 15x Plus |
| Ultra | $200 | $2,000/yr (about $167/mo) | 50x Plus |
Prices in other countries differ; users in Nigeria, for example, have been sharing local-currency screenshots and launch discounts on X. Always check x.ai/pricing for what applies to you.
What’s included in each tier
Free ($0)
Daily access to Grok, a starter allowance for Cursor’s coding agents, and standard X. Good for kicking the tires.
Plus ($8/month)
More AI usage in Grok and Cursor, plus the X perks most people associate with “Premium”: a checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads. Engadget’s rundown adds that it covers Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build, Grok API access, Cursor for coding, and advanced analytics on X. SpaceXSI itself recommends Plus for social creators with limited AI usage.
Premium ($30/month)
This is the headline deal. SpaceXSI says Premium gives you the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which previously cost $90 a month combined. On top of everything in Plus, you get:
- Grok: Grok Bot, the latest Grok models, faster chat responses, and AI image and video generation
- Cursor: code hosting, AI code reviews, cloud agents and automations
- X: ad-free scrolling on most surfaces, a preferred @handle and a higher reply boost
- Usage: 4x the Plus allowance
Super ($100/month) and Ultra ($200/month)
Same feature set as Premium, just a lot more fuel in the tank: 15x and 50x the Plus usage respectively. Per Engadget, Super adds priority access to Grok models at peak times, and Ultra gets the earliest access to new products and models.
The fine print: third-party models
Here’s the catch worth knowing. The included usage pool covers Grok models generously, but it doesn’t include third-party models. If you like picking non-Grok models inside Cursor, those are still available, but you pay for them separately at API list prices. SpaceXSI says you can set spending caps to keep that from getting out of hand.
Who is it for?
SpaceXSI’s own recommendations are refreshingly direct:
- Plus: social creators who mostly want X perks and a bit of AI
- Premium: people new to AI tools
- Super: folks who use agents every day
- Ultra: power users
Our take: if you were already paying for two of these three products, Premium at $30 is the obvious one to look at. If you’re a developer who leans on Cursor all day with Grok models, Super or Ultra is where the usage math gets interesting. If you only want a checkmark, Plus at $8 is the cheap seat.
Already subscribed? You don’t have to switch
Existing Cursor, SuperGrok and X Premium plans keep going at the same price with the same features unless you change or cancel them. The old plans are just closed to new sign-ups, so new customers start on The X Subscription.
If you do switch, the official FAQ says the subscriptions you select are cancelled at checkout and you get an automatic prorated refund for unused time. Your new plan is charged at full price and the refund lands back on your original payment method separately, which can take a few days. A new billing cycle starts the day you switch.
One gotcha: app store billing. If you pay for Cursor through the Apple App Store, SpaceXSI can’t cancel or refund it, so you have to cancel it yourself in your iPhone or iPad settings. Grok or X Premium bought through Apple gets cancelled for you, but Apple decides on the refund. On Google Play, check your subscriptions after switching and cancel there if it’s still set to renew.
What about teams?
Premium, Super and Ultra are also available as team plans at the same per-seat prices ($30, $100 or $200) with the same usage per seat. Teams add SSO, role-based access, consolidated billing, usage analytics and SOC 2 compliance. SpaceXSI says teams currently on Cursor will pay less per seat and get more usage than on the old Cursor Teams plans. Enterprise customers can get custom plans.
Why this is a problem for Anthropic
Here’s where it gets spicy. Anthropic, the company behind Claude, isn’t part of this bundle, and in our view The X Subscription could turn into a real competitive headache for it. Claude has its own paid plans, but they cover Anthropic’s tools only, not social media perks or a separate coding editor. Three things stand out.
Aggressive pricing
For $30 a month, the Premium tier packs AI chat, a coding editor, an always-on agent and X perks into one bill, and SpaceXSI says that replaces about $90 of separate subscriptions. When one plan already covers chat, coding and agents, a lot of people may start asking whether they really need a second AI subscription on top. That could chip away at demand for standalone Claude plans, especially among folks who are watching every dollar.
AI commoditization
Claude has built a strong reputation with developers for coding and reasoning. But reputations get tested when cheaper options get close enough. If Grok models keep closing the gap at a lower effective cost, many developers may decide that “almost as good and already included” beats “a bit better and billed separately.” It’s worth noting the flip side, too: in Cursor, third-party models sit outside the bundle’s usage pool and are billed at API list prices, which quietly nudges users toward Grok models by default.
Ecosystem lock-in
The bundle ties together where you write code, where your AI agent works and where you post about it. One account, one bill, one shared usage pool. That kind of convenience is sticky. People who used to mix and match providers could gradually settle into a single ecosystem simply because it’s easier, and once your workflows, agents and habits live in one place, switching out gets harder.
The biggest danger
The most likely risk for Anthropic isn’t losing its most demanding customers overnight. It’s a slow leak of price-sensitive developers and individual subscribers who decide the bundle is good enough. At the same time, Anthropic could feel pressure to cut API prices or hand out bigger usage allowances just to stay competitive, which squeezes margins either way.
Bottom line for Anthropic
Anthropic’s long-term edge may depend more and more on keeping a clear, noticeable performance lead over cheaper alternatives. If Grok becomes good enough for most everyday tasks, Anthropic could face serious pricing pressure even if Claude stays the technically stronger model. Being the best only pays when customers feel the difference is worth paying extra for.
The bottom line
The X Subscription is a simple pitch: one bill, one weekly usage pool, and a chatbot, an AI agent, a coding editor and social media perks under a single roof. The $30 Premium tier is the standout, bundling what used to cost $90 a month. Just remember that third-party models in Cursor cost extra, and if you’re on app store billing, double-check your old subscription is actually gone before the next renewal hits.
