Puzzle of the Day: Spot 7 Differences on the Coral Reef

Two side-by-side cartoon coral reef scenes labeled A and B: a striped orange clownfish, a yellow fish, a small school of pale blue fish, tall green seaweed, a pink branching coral, gray rocks, a treasure chest with rising bubbles, gold coins, a starfish and a shell on the sand. Study this still while you solve

Time for a dive. These two little reef scenes look like twins, but someone has been rearranging things under the sea. Start at the surface, work your way down to the sand, and see how many changes you can catch before you peek.

The puzzle

Picture B was copied from picture A, then changed in exactly 7 places. Nothing was resized or shifted, so every difference is something added, removed or recolored.

Can you find all 7 differences between the two coral reef scenes?

Show hint

Two differences are on the fish, two are on the plants and coral, and three are down near the sand and the treasure chest. Count things, don’t just look at colors.

Show answer
Answer image: the two coral reef scenes with seven numbered orange circles marking the differences: 1 the clownfish's missing middle stripe, 2 an extra bubble at the top of the bubble trail, 3 the starfish turned purple, 4 the missing padlock on the treasure chest, 5 the shorter seaweed, 6 the yellow fish's missing tail spot, 7 an extra coral branch.
All 7 differences, circled and numbered on both pictures

Here are the 7 differences:

  1. Clownfish: the clownfish has two white stripes in picture B instead of three. Its middle stripe is gone.
  2. Bubbles: the bubble trail rising from the treasure chest has five bubbles in B instead of four. The extra one is at the top.
  3. Starfish: the starfish on the sand is purple in B instead of orange.
  4. Treasure chest: the gold padlock on the front of the chest is missing in B.
  5. Seaweed: the tall seaweed on the left is shorter in B.
  6. Yellow fish: the yellow fish has lost the dark spot near its tail in B.
  7. Coral: the pink coral has an extra branch growing straight up from its middle in B.

The little school of blue fish, the rocks, the shell and the gold coins are the same in both pictures. Found all seven? Come back tomorrow for a new puzzle.
