Best Hair Dryers (2026): Seven Picks Compared, From $40 to $372

A great hair dryer is one of those gifts people use every single day and rarely buy for themselves. The newest high-speed models dry hair in a fraction of the time and with less heat, but they can cost as much as a phone, and the right one depends on your hair more than on the brand.

We compared seven you can order on Amazon today, from the $39.99 Revlon One-Step Volumizer to the $372.49 Dyson Supersonic Nural. Prices, ratings, and rankings are snapshots from Amazon’s U.S. listings on Oct. 31, 2026, and they change often, especially as holiday sales start.

What to look for

Your hair type. Thick, coarse, or long hair benefits most from raw power and strong airflow, which is why stylists recommend the ghd Helios and the 2000-watt BaBylissPRO. Fine or short hair does better with gentler, more controllable air, and curly hair needs a diffuser that spreads airflow without frizz.

Heat control. Too much heat is what damages hair. The premium picks here monitor temperature constantly: the Shark regulates its heat 1,000 times a second and never goes above 230°F, and the Dyson lowers the heat as it gets close to your scalp.

Weight and attachments. A dryer you hold for 10 minutes a day should be light and balanced. Check what’s in the box, too: a diffuser for curls, a concentrator for sleek blowouts, and, on the pricier models, brushes or smoothing tools that save you from buying a separate styler.

How we chose

Expert testing first. We started from hair dryer guides that test with real hair and stylists: NBC Select, Business Insider, Allure, and Consumer Reports’s lab ratings. Every dryer here is a top pick in at least one of them. Specs come from the makers’ Amazon listings and those tests.

Then what people actually buy. Every pick is sold on Amazon’s U.S. store with at least 290 ratings, and six of the seven are sold by Amazon itself. The BaBylissPRO has more than 8,000 ratings, and the Revlon has more than 350,000.

Dyson Supersonic Nural: best overall

The Dyson Supersonic Nural is the best overall hair dryer at NBC Select, Business Insider, and Allure. Like the original Supersonic, it puts a small, fast motor in the handle, so it feels balanced in your hand. The Nural adds sensors: Scalp Protect gradually lowers the heat as the dryer gets close to your head, attachment learning remembers your preferred heat and airflow for each attachment, and Pause Detect drops the heat when you set it down.

Dyson’s listing lists 1,600 watts, four heat settings and three airflow speeds, and five attachments, including a Wave+Curl diffuser, a styling concentrator and a wide-tooth comb. Business Insider found it lightweight and far less tiring to use than a traditional dryer, and noted it comes with a storage case.

It is $372.49 on Amazon, sold by Amazon, with 4.2 stars from more than 650 ratings.

Trade-offs: it is the most expensive dryer here. Consumer Reports found it heavy, with very small controls and hard-to-read icons, and said the see-through housing makes the buttons harder to spot.

Shark SpeedStyle RapidGloss: best for styling

The Shark SpeedStyle RapidGloss (HD331) is Allure’s best hair dryer for styling and a 2024 Allure Best of Beauty winner. It comes with three attachments that turn it into more of a styling kit: a Turbo Concentrator for sleek blowouts, a QuickSmooth Brush for drying and smoothing in one step, and the RapidGloss Finisher, which smooths frizz and flyaways at the end.

Shark’s listing says it regulates its heat 1,000 times a second and never goes above 230°F, with four heat settings, three airflow speeds and a cool shot. It weighs 1.69 pounds and carries a two-year warranty. This version is set up for fine to medium hair.

It is $169 on Amazon, sold by Amazon, with 4.3 stars from more than 1,600 ratings.

Trade-offs: Allure notes that the diffuser and wide-tooth comb are sold separately, so curly hair needs an extra purchase.

Laifen Swift Special: best Dyson alternative

The Laifen Swift Special is Business Insider’s best-value hair dryer and its top pick for curly hair. It uses a 110,000 RPM brushless motor, like the premium dryers, and its magnetic attachments snap on and rotate. Consumer Reports tested the closely related Laifen Swift and praised how easily its attachment swaps and rotates, and its easy-to-read icons.

Laifen’s listing says it pushes air at 22 meters per second, checks the temperature 100 times a second, and runs at 59 decibels. It comes with a concentrator, a smoothing nozzle and a diffuser, and Business Insider weighed it at 0.9 pounds without the cord.

It is $127.49 on Amazon, sold by Laifen’s own store and shipped by Amazon, with 4.4 stars from more than 800 ratings.

Trade-offs: there are only two speeds, and Business Insider’s tester found the strong airflow tangled long, fine hair. Its 1,400 watts is the lowest of the full-size dryers here.

ghd Helios: best for thick hair

The ghd Helios is Allure’s best dryer for thick hair and another Best of Beauty winner. “The GHD Helios is a powerhouse for thick hair,” a stylist told Allure, crediting its aerodynamic airflow with smoother blowouts in fewer passes. An Allure tester with short, dense hair dried it in about 10 minutes. NBC Select also recommends it.

ghd’s listing lists a 1,875-watt brushless motor with airflow up to 75 mph, ionic technology it says adds 30% more shine, three temperatures and two speeds, and a 9-foot cord. It weighs about 1.7 pounds.

It is $329 on Amazon, sold by Amazon, with 3.8 stars from more than 750 ratings.

Trade-offs: only a concentrator comes in the box, with no diffuser, it isn’t dual voltage for travel, and its Amazon rating is the lowest here.

T3 AireLuxe Styling Set: best for short hair and full blowouts

The T3 AireLuxe Styling Set is Allure’s best dryer for short hair. A stylist told Allure it “gives great precision,” with airflow that is “consistent but not overwhelming,” and a tester got her hair 80% dry in 10 to 15 minutes. NBC Select lists it among its best hair dryers, too.

This set adds a paddle brush and a 2.5-inch round brush, so it’s a complete blowout kit to give as a gift. T3’s listing lists 1,875 watts, ionic airflow, five heat and three speed settings plus a cool shot, a 1.6-pound weight, and a two-year warranty.

It is $191.24 on Amazon, sold by Amazon, with 4.2 stars from nearly 300 ratings.

Trade-offs: the diffuser and smoothing comb are sold separately, so curly hair needs an extra purchase, and it has the fewest Amazon ratings of the seven.

BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium: fastest drying

The BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium (BNT5548) is Allure’s fastest hair dryer. One stylist compared its power to a combustion engine, and an Allure tester said it took maybe three minutes to dry her hair. NBC Select says experts recommend it for thick or coarse hair, and one stylist it interviewed uses it in her salon.

BaBylissPRO’s listing lists 2,000 watts, the most here, Nano Titanium and an ion generator, six heat and speed settings, a cool shot, a removable filter, a 9-foot cord, and a weight of just 1.05 pounds. A diffuser, concentrator and straightening pick come in the box, and it carries a four-year limited warranty.

It is $99.99 on Amazon, sold by Amazon, with 4.5 stars from more than 8,000 ratings.

Trade-offs: it’s a classic, no-frills dryer, with none of the smart heat sensors on the Dyson, Shark or Laifen. Allure calls it a no-frills pick.

Revlon One-Step Volumizer: best budget

The Revlon One-Step Volumizer isn’t a classic dryer but a hot-air brush that dries and styles at once, and it’s the bestseller of the group. An NBC Select editor with fine, flat hair said it “does a fantastic job for the price” and gives her real volume, and a salon owner NBC interviewed said it works for thick and curly hair, too.

Revlon’s listing lists 1,100 watts, a 2.8-inch oval barrel with a ceramic coating, nylon pins and tufted bristles, three settings (cool, low and high), and a 6-foot cord. It holds the No. 2 spot in Amazon’s hot-air brush bestsellers.

It is $39.99 on Amazon, sold by Amazon, with 4.6 stars from more than 350,000 ratings.

Trade-offs: Revlon says the 2.8-inch barrel suits mid-length to long hair, so short hair is better served by a regular dryer, and at 1,100 watts it has about half the power of the BaBylissPRO.

Best budget: dry and style in one step, for $39.99.

Bottom line

If money is no object, buy the Dyson Supersonic Nural: its scalp sensor and attachment memory make it the easiest way to dry hair fast with less heat, and it tops three of our four expert guides. For less than half the price, the Laifen Swift Special gets you a similar high-speed design, and the Shark SpeedStyle RapidGloss (HD331) adds a brush and gloss finisher for $169.

Thick hair is the ghd Helios’s specialty, the T3 AireLuxe Styling Set is a ready-made blowout gift for short hair, and the BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium (BNT5548) is the fastest dryer here for under $100. If you just want volume without the fuss, the Revlon One-Step Volumizer is $39.99 and beloved by hundreds of thousands of buyers.

Whichever you choose, start on a lower heat setting and use the cool shot to finish: less heat is the easiest way to keep hair healthy.
