Best Smart Bird Feeders With Cameras (2026): Five Picks Compared, From $54 to $300

A smart bird feeder is a regular seed feeder with a weatherproof camera built in. When a bird lands, the camera wakes up, records a clip, and sends it to your phone, and most models will also tell you what species just stopped by. It turns a quick glance out the kitchen window into a running photo album of your backyard regulars, and it makes one of the easiest gifts to get right for the person who already owns every field guide.

It is also a big audience. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 96 million Americans went birding in 2022, and 91 million of them did it from home. Fall is the time to set one up: migrants are passing through, winter feeder birds are settling in, and Project FeederWatch, the long-running citizen-science count run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Birds Canada, starts its new season on November 1.

We compared five camera feeders that are selling well on Amazon right now, from the roughly $54 HEAPETS G02 to the roughly $300 Birdfy 2 Pro Solar. Specs come from manufacturer pages and current Amazon listings, and prices, ratings, and sales figures are snapshots from Amazon’s U.S. listings on Oct. 20, 2026. Prices on these feeders move a lot, so check the listing before you buy.

What you are actually paying for

Every feeder here records video, sends alerts to a phone app, and charges itself with a solar panel. The differences come down to four things:

Picture quality. Most use a 2K camera, which is plenty for a phone screen. The Kiwibit records in 4K, and the Birdfy 2 Pro adds a second, wide-angle lens so you see the whole perch as well as a tight close-up.

The subscription. This is the catch with smart feeders. Every model streams and saves clips for free, but automatic species ID and some cloud features usually sit behind a monthly or yearly plan after a free trial. The Birdfy 2 Pro AI Lifetime version is the exception: its AI identification is included, with no subscription.

The app. The camera is only half the product. Bird Buddy and Birdfy have the most polished apps, with sharing for family members and collections of the species you have seen.

Seed capacity and build. A bigger hopper means fewer trips outside to refill it, and a solid roof and perch matter when squirrels start testing the feeder.

How we chose

Sales and ratings came first. Every pick holds at least 4.1 stars on Amazon. The HEAPETS G02 was No. 17 on Amazon’s Wild Bird Feeders Best Sellers list when we checked, and both it and the HARYMOR feeder show more than 1,000 bought in the past month.

Then the camera and the fine print. We compared video resolution, solar charging, seed capacity, and, above all, what you get without paying for a subscription.

And a spread of budgets. The list runs from about $54 to about $300, so there is a sensible pick for a first feeder and for a serious backyard birder.

Birdbuddy Pro Solar: best smart bird feeder overall

Birdbuddy Pro Solar Smart Bird Feeder: the camera sits behind the perch, and the roof is a solar panel.

Bird Buddy made smart feeders mainstream, and the Birdbuddy Pro Solar Smart Bird Feeder is its current flagship. Per Bird Buddy, it records 2K video and 5MP photos on a 1/2.7-inch sensor with HDR, and the solar roof keeps the battery topped up. It holds 3.8 cups (0.9 liters) of seed, connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, is rated for -5°F to 120°F, and carries a 24-month warranty. You can add up to ten people to the feeder in the app.

Its real strength is the app, which turns each visit into a “postcard” you can save and share. Bird Buddy’s free plan includes photos, videos, and the livestream. Its Premium plan, which costs $98 a year after a free month, adds automatic identification of every visitor and lets you name and track your regulars.

Amazon lists it at $239.99 (down from a $299 list price), sold by Bird Buddy and shipped by Amazon, with more than 300 bought in the past month and 4.1 stars across more than 1,200 ratings. A hanger and a universal pole mount are included.

Trade-offs: the seed hopper is the smallest here, so busy feeders need refilling often, and the full ID experience costs extra every year.

A 2K camera feeder with a solar roof and the most polished app, for about $240.

Birdfy 2 Pro Solar: best smart bird feeder with no subscription

Birdfy 2 Pro Solar Smart Bird Feeder Camera: the camera rides in a hooded green feeder, with a separate solar panel on the side.

The Birdfy 2 Pro Solar Smart Bird Feeder Camera is the one to buy if you never want to pay a subscription. This listing is the AI Lifetime version, so bird identification is included for good. Per the Amazon listing, its camera has two lenses: a 2K close-up lens that automatically tracks a bird as it moves along the perch, and a 1080p wide-angle lens that shows the whole scene. A 9,000 mAh battery and a 3-watt solar panel power it, it is rated for 14°F to 113°F, and it comes with a two-year warranty.

The Birdfy 2 Pro camera pairs a 2K close-up lens with a 1080p wide-angle lens.

It holds 2.6 pounds of seed, and more than 20 accounts can share the feeder. Amazon lists it at $299.99, with a lower price for Prime members ($259.99 when we checked), an Amazon’s Choice badge, and 4.4 stars across more than 300 ratings. A cheaper version of the same feeder with only a seven-day AI trial was listed at $239.99.

Trade-offs: it is the most expensive feeder here, and it has far fewer ratings than the budget picks. The lifetime AI is what you are paying extra for, so make sure you pick the AI Lifetime version.

Kiwibit 4K Solar: best picture for the money

Kiwibit 4K Solar Smart Bird Feeder: a clear seed hopper under a dual solar roof.

The Kiwibit 4K Solar Smart Bird Feeder (sold as the Beako, model BW512) is the sharpest camera here. Per the Amazon listing, it records 4K video and 8MP photos with HDR through a 132-degree lens, adds infrared night vision and two-way audio, and runs on a removable 5,200 mAh battery charged by a 4.4-watt dual solar roof. The clear hopper holds 1.5 liters of seed, it is rated IP65 against rain and dust, and you can record to a microSD card of up to 512 GB.

Amazon lists it at $169.99 (down from $239.99), with more than 300 bought in the past month and 4.5 stars across more than 360 ratings. It was No. 69 in Amazon’s Wild Bird Feeders when we checked.

Trade-offs: AI species ID needs Kiwibit Premium after a 30-day trial, and the warranty is 12 months, half what Bird Buddy and Birdfy offer. Kiwibit also sells a newer Bird Feeder 2 Pro for about $220.

HARYMOR 2L Smart Bird Feeder: best big-capacity value

HARYMOR 2L Smart Bird Feeder With Camera: a 2-liter hopper, a solar roof, and an extra solar panel.

The HARYMOR 2L Smart Bird Feeder With Camera is the pick for a busy feeder you do not want to refill every few days. Per the Amazon listing, its seed container holds 2 liters, the most here, and a funnel design keeps seed dry in the rain. The 2K camera has a 120-degree lens, and power comes from a 3-watt solar panel in the roof plus a second, external 3-watt panel you can angle toward the sun. A 5 dBi antenna helps it reach Wi-Fi from the far end of a yard.

Video can go to the cloud, with a three-day rolling loop that is free for the first two years, or to a microSD card of up to 128 GB. Amazon lists it at $85.47, with more than 1,000 bought in the past month and 4.5 stars across more than 1,900 ratings.

Trade-offs: it only connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, AI bird information needs a subscription in the app, and it is sold by a third-party seller rather than by the brand or Amazon.

HEAPETS G02: best budget smart bird feeder

HEAPETS G02 Solar Bird Feeder Camera: a red solar roof over a 2K camera, with its mounting hardware.

The HEAPETS G02 Solar Bird Feeder Camera is the cheapest way into camera birding, and the best seller of the group. It was No. 17 in Amazon’s Wild Bird Feeders when we checked, with an Amazon’s Choice badge, more than 1,000 bought in the past month, and 4.2 stars across more than 1,500 ratings. Amazon lists it at $53.99 (down from $79.99), and HEAPETS sells it directly for $54.99.

Per the Amazon listing, it streams 2K video, charges from its solar roof or a wired connection, lets two people watch the live view at once, and shares clips with as many family members as you like. AI bird ID comes with a one-month free trial, then a subscription.

Trade-offs: some owners report durability problems and slow solar charging in shady spots, so put it where it gets several hours of direct sun.

Tips before you hang one up

Check your Wi-Fi first. Most smart feeders, including the Bird Buddy and the HARYMOR, only connect over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Stand where the feeder will hang and check that your phone gets a good signal there.

Give the solar panel sun. A few hours of direct light a day keeps most of these feeders running. In deep shade, plan to bring the camera in to charge it.

Mind the windows and the cats. Project FeederWatch recommends marking the outside of nearby windows with repeating patterns such as dots, so birds see the glass, and keeping cats indoors.

Clean it regularly. Feeders can spread disease between birds. Project FeederWatch reports a study that found scrubbing with soap and water reduced Salmonella on feeders, but a soak in a diluted bleach solution worked better. Take the camera out first, then rinse and dry everything before you refill it.

Bottom line

For most backyards, the Birdbuddy Pro Solar Smart Bird Feeder is the best smart bird feeder: a great camera, a solar roof, and the best app, for about $240. If you hate subscriptions, spend more on the Birdfy 2 Pro Solar Smart Bird Feeder Camera, whose AI bird ID is included for life. The Kiwibit 4K Solar Smart Bird Feeder gives you the sharpest 4K picture for about $170, and the HARYMOR 2L Smart Bird Feeder With Camera holds the most seed for about $85. And if you just want to try camera birding without spending much, the HEAPETS G02 Solar Bird Feeder Camera costs about $54.

Whichever you pick, hang it where your Wi-Fi reaches and the sun shines, and keep it clean.
