John Mayer returns to Sphere in Las Vegas in 2027 under his own name, after playing 48 nights there with Dead & Company. Live at Sphere is a 21-show residency from April 8 through June 12, and each night is built as three acts in one: a solo set, a full-band set, and the John Mayer Trio with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster, with Vibee hotel packages at The Venetian, charity auctions for Heart and Armor Foundation, and $1 from each ticket going to Mayer’s Back To You Fund.
If you are going, the question that matters most is where to sit. At Sphere, the seat that gets you closest to John Mayer is the one that shows you the least of the show. Here is how the sections compare for this residency, what the seated floor is like, what the three-act format means for the night, what tickets cost and what to know before show night.

The short answer: best seats for John Mayer at Sphere
For most people, the best seats are in the center of the 200 and 300 levels, roughly sections 205 to 207 and 305 to 307. This residency is built for immersive sound and a wraparound picture as much as for close guitar work, and from those rows you see Mayer and the dome at once. Front rows of the side 300s, such as section 302, are a strong value pick when the center sells out. If being close is the point, the floor seats put you at the stage, but you will spend much of the night looking up.
One detail that separates this show from some other Sphere residencies: the floor is seated, not general admission standing. Reddit threads from the on-sale and Ticketmaster maps show reserved floor seats rather than a GA pit like Dead & Company. That makes the floor calmer and clearer for sightlines, but it does not change the basic Sphere trade-off. Front rows still lose the top of the picture.
The reason is the building. Sphere holds about 17,600 seats in four tiers, plus the floor, inside a dome whose inner surface is one LED screen of about 160,000 square feet. The picture wraps up and over the audience, so the higher and more central you are, the more of it you can see without turning your head. For a three-act night that moves from quiet solo songs to full-band rock and Trio blues, a center 200 or lower-300 seat keeps the stage and the screen in one glance.

Section by section: what you see from each level
Floor (seated): Reserved seats around the stage, not a standing pit. You are close enough to see hands on the fretboard and the Trio interplay, and the energy is still the loudest near the front. The screen is mostly above and behind you. Several fans who have seen other Sphere concerts from the rail say they loved the closeness once and then bought upper seats for a second night to see the production.
100 level: The front and middle rows, including sections like 110, are a good compromise, close to the stage and clear of the overhang so you still see the ceiling visuals. The back rows, roughly the mid-20s and up, sit under the 200 level, which cuts off the top of the picture. Check the row before you buy, and treat "limited screen view" or "restricted view" listings as a real warning, not a soft one.
200 level: Center sections 205 to 207 face the stage head on and clear the overhang. You see Mayer well and most of the screen, which makes this the best all-round choice for people who want both. Side 200s such as 209 and 210 work, but the picture skews.
300 level: The center sections, 305 to 307, see the screen most evenly, and the stage lands at a natural eye line from the front rows. Side sections like 302 are often the best value in the house when priced below the center 200s. The stairs are steeper than the 100s, so plan bathroom trips between acts.
400 level: The top tier is the farthest from the stage and the steepest. In the center sections the view of the screen is broad, and for midweek dates resale often starts closest to face value. Some people with a fear of heights find it uncomfortable. For this show, many fans would call the center 400s the cheapest way to see the whole production.
Side sections: The far ends of each level look at the screen from an angle, so some scenes look skewed. They are fine for the music and the crowd, but pay more for the center if the visuals are a big part of why you are going.
| Seat area | Artist view | Screen view | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Floor (seated) | Very close | Partial, lots of looking up | Guitar detail and Trio energy |
| 100 level, front and middle rows | Very good | Good if clear of overhang | Closeness with most of the picture |
| 100 level, back rows | Good | Top cut off by overhang | Saving money, if you accept the cutoff |
| 200 level center (205–207) | Good | Very good | The best balance |
| 300 level center (305–307) | Distant | Best | Visuals across all three acts |
| 300 level side front (e.g. 302) | Distant, angled | Very good | Value and a wide view |
| 400 level center (405–407) | Far | Very good | The cheapest full-screen seats |

What the John Mayer Sphere show looks like
Each night is three forms of Mayer’s music, not a single continuous set with the same band. Official announcements describe the solo portion as Mayer alone on stage, leaning heavily on acoustic guitar, with special turns on piano and electric. The full-band portion brings the rock and pop catalog with a larger ensemble. The John Mayer Trio closes or slots into the night with Steve Jordan on drums and Pino Palladino on bass, the same trio that last toured together in concert in 2017.
Sphere’s press materials promise immersive sound, the wraparound LED display and sensory feedback, including the venue’s haptic seats. How the visuals track the three acts will only be clear once the residency opens. Until then, the smart seating choice is the one that keeps both the stage and the dome in view for a long evening rather than locking you to a single close angle.
Mayer already knows the room. Dead & Company’s 48-show Sphere residency drew nearly half a million attendees, with Mayer on lead guitar and vocals. Live at Sphere is his first headlining residency there, built around his own catalog rather than the Grateful Dead songbook.
At Sphere, the seat that gets you closest to John Mayer is the one that shows you the least of the show.
John Mayer at Sphere setlist expectations
As of November 6, 2026, John Mayer has not yet played a headlining show at Sphere, so there is no Sphere setlist to quote. Do not treat any fan rumor list as confirmed. What is confirmed is the three-act format and the players in the Trio.
Recent Mayer tours and the 2017 Search for Everything run, which also moved between solo, band and Trio configurations, give a fair sense of the song pool. Solo stretches often lean on quiet Continuum and Born and Raised material. Full-band sets pull from Room for Squares through Sob Rock: "Gravity," "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," "New Light," "Last Train Home" and similar staples. Trio sets tend toward blues and shuffle numbers from Try! and later live cuts.
Expect night-to-night swaps across 21 dates. If you want a fixed song order before you go, wait for opening-night reports in April 2027 rather than trusting a guessed list now.

Who is on stage
John Mayer is the headliner in all three acts. The Trio reunites him with Steve Jordan, who has also drummed for the Rolling Stones, and bassist Pino Palladino, a first-call session player who has worked with The Who and countless studio sessions. The full band for Sphere has not been named in the residency announcements; past Mayer tours have used a multi-piece band that sometimes overlapped with Jordan and Palladino.
Mayer broke through with Room for Squares in 2001, won multiple Grammys including Song of the Year for "Daughters," and later joined Dead & Company. Continuum remains the album many fans treat as the center of the catalog.

John Mayer at Sphere ticket prices
Official face value starts at $129, per Sphere Entertainment’s announcement. That figure is typically the cheapest seats or restricted-view inventory; center 100 and 200 seats and VIP packages run much higher. Secondary-market prices after the October 2026 on-sale sit well above face on many weekend nights, so compare dates before you lock a Saturday.
VIP packages on Ticketmaster have included premium seats, a date-specific lithograph signed by Mayer and exclusive merchandise on select packages. Charity auctions send 100 percent of proceeds to the Heart and Armor Foundation, which Mayer founded in 2012 for veterans’ health. Separately, $1 from each ticket sold goes to the Back To You Fund.
Vibee is the official concert-and-hotel partner. Packages include a choice of concert ticket, a two-night stay at The Venetian Resort (the only resort connected to Sphere by pedestrian bridge) and a collectible laminate. Vibee VIP editions add priority entry, upgraded seating options, an exclusive gift kit and other perks. Package availability and prices change by date; check johnmayer.vibee.com for current inventory.
A few ways to pay less: compare midweek April and May nights with Saturday closers; look at front rows of the side 300s before the center 200s; and if you buy in the 100 level, make sure the row clears the overhang. Official tickets run through Ticketmaster and Sphere. If you are weighing other shows in town, see our guide to Vegas shows on a budget.
Show night: what to know before you go
Getting there: Sphere is at 255 Sands Avenue, connected to The Venetian Resort by a pedestrian bridge. Rideshare and taxis are simplest, but traffic before an 8 p.m. show is heavy. Our guide on how to get around Las Vegas without a car covers the Monorail and walking routes.
Tickets: Tickets are digital only, so charge your phone and add them to your wallet before you leave dinner. A small power bank helps on a long three-act night.
Bags: Sphere is a no-bag venue. Small clutches and purses up to about 6 by 6 by 2 inches are allowed, and lockers are available for anything bigger. Earplugs and compact binoculars fit the rules and are useful in the upper levels, especially if you want fretboard detail from the 300s.
Photos: Turn off your phone’s flash. Video cameras, selfie sticks and professional cameras with zoom or telephoto lenses are not allowed.
Effects: About 10,000 of the seats have haptics that vibrate during the show, and Sphere warns that its events can include intense lighting, loud sound and effects like wind, fog and scent. If you are prone to motion sickness or sensitive to sensory effects, pick a seat with an easy exit aisle.
Kids: There is no age requirement. Children 2 and older need their own ticket. Sphere suggests that guests under 18 attend with a parent or guardian.
Doors: Doors open 90 minutes before show time. For more on the rhythm of a night at the venue, see A Night at Sphere Las Vegas.
