Best Cordless Vacuums (2026): Six Picks Compared, From $140 to $650

A good cordless stick vacuum turns cleaning into a two-minute job: grab it off the wall, chase the crumbs, put it back. With holiday guests, shedding pets and muddy-boot season all arriving at once, it is one of the most useful things you can buy for your home this time of year, and one of the most popular gifts.

We compared six cordless vacuums you can order on Amazon today, from the $139.94 Levoit LVAC-200 to the $649.99 Dyson V15 Detect. Prices and ratings are snapshots from Amazon’s U.S. listings on Nov. 3, 2026, and they move often, especially as holiday sales start.

What to look for

Pickup on your floors. Most homes mix hard floors, rugs and carpet. Heads with two brushrolls or a soft roller, such as the Shark and Dyson heads here, do better on fine dust on hard floors, while a strong motorized brush matters most for deep carpet and pet hair. Anti-tangle brushes are now common and save you from cutting hair off the roller.

Real runtime. Makers quote runtimes of 50 to 70 minutes, but those are measured on the lowest setting, often with a small tool instead of the floor head. In TechGearLab’s tests, max-power runtime ranged from about 9 to 16 minutes for the picks here it timed, so look at both numbers and at whether the battery can be swapped.

Weight, bin and filter. A lighter handheld is easier on stairs and ceilings, a bigger bin means fewer trips to the trash, and a sealed HEPA filter keeps fine dust from blowing back out, which matters if anyone at home has allergies. A self-emptying dock, like the Shark PowerDetect’s, means you almost never touch the dirt.

How we chose

Expert testing first. We started from guides that test vacuums side by side on sand, pet hair and debris: RTINGS, TechGearLab and Vacuum Wars. Every vacuum here is a pick or a tested recommendation in at least one of them, or, for the new Dyson V8 Cyclone, a full review from Vacuum Wars. Specs come from the makers’ Amazon listings and the testers’ measurements.

Then what people actually buy. Every pick is sold on Amazon’s U.S. store, and several are clear crowd favorites: the LVAC-200 has more than 14,000 ratings, and Amazon shows more than 2,000 bought in the past week for both it and the V8 Cyclone.

Quick pick guide

Best overall: Dyson V15 Detect: laser dust reveal, a particle counter and RTINGS’ and Vacuum Wars’ top pick, for $649.99.

Best self-emptying: Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty: TechGearLab’s pick for most people, with an auto-empty dock, for about $349.

Best for carpets: Shark Stratos Cordless (IZ862H): perfect deep-carpet scores at Vacuum Wars and up to 60 minutes, for $329.99.

Lightest: Levoit LVAC-300: a 3.5-pound handheld that stands on its own, for $349.99.

Cheapest Dyson: Dyson V8 Cyclone: a new, more powerful V8 with a power button instead of a trigger, for $299.

Best value: Levoit LVAC-200: Vacuum Wars’ budget pick, with more than 14,000 Amazon ratings, for $139.94.

Dyson V15 Detect: best overall

The Dyson V15 Detect is RTINGS’s best cordless vacuum overall, with impressive pickup on every surface, outstanding results on pet hair and near-perfect filtration, and it is Vacuum Wars’s best overall cordless pick too. TechGearLab named it its Best Premium pick, with a score of 77 out of 100.

Its Fluffy Optic head lights up dust you would otherwise miss on hard floors, and the Digital Motorbar head deep cleans carpet and de-tangles hair as you go. A sensor counts the particles you pick up and shows them on an LCD screen, along with the power mode and the remaining runtime to the second, and Auto mode raises suction when it senses more dirt. Dyson quotes up to 60 minutes; TechGearLab measured about 9 minutes on max and 64 on low, and weighed the handheld at 4.5 pounds.

It is $649.99 on Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon, with 4.3 stars from more than 100 ratings on this listing. Vacuum Wars lists it at $849.99 full price.

Trade-offs: it is the priciest vacuum here, the power trigger has to be held down the whole time, which TechGearLab found tiring, and RTINGS noted it can get stuck on shag rugs and that its plastic feels cheap for the price.

Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty: best self-emptying

The Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty is TechGearLab’s Best for Most People, where it tied the Dyson V15 Detect at 77 out of 100 and was excellent on pet hair, especially on shag. Vacuum Wars gave it its Best Overall Cordless award for 2025, after it scored perfectly on carpet deep cleaning and hard-floor pickup.

Its big draw is the dock: put the vacuum back and it charges and empties the bin into a bagless, HEPA-filtered reservoir that Shark says holds up to 45 days of dirt. The head has two brushrolls and an anti-hair-wrap design, and sensors adjust suction for dirt, floor type, direction and edges. Shark quotes up to 70 minutes; TechGearLab measured 12 minutes on max and 47 on low, with a 3.9-pound handheld.

It is about $349 on Amazon, down from a $549.99 list price according to Vacuum Wars, with 4.0 stars from more than 1,300 ratings and more than 500 bought in the past week.

Trade-offs: TechGearLab found that it misses some debris when pushed straight into it, that hair still wraps on the rollers and that it lacks a motorized hand tool. The dock also needs floor space and an outlet.

Shark Stratos IZ862H: best for carpets

The Shark Stratos Cordless (IZ862H) is RTINGS’s best mid-range cordless vacuum, sturdier than the budget picks, and Vacuum Wars measured a perfect 100% on its carpet deep-cleaning test; it won Vacuum Wars’s 2025 awards for best cordless on hard floors and best for carpets.

Its DuoClean PowerFins HairPro head pairs a fin brushroll for carpets with a soft roller for hard floors, and the brushroll cleans itself of hair. An infrared Clean Sense IQ sensor boosts power when it detects dirt, the MultiFLEX wand bends to reach under furniture, and an odor neutralizer cartridge freshens the air from the bin. Shark quotes up to 60 minutes, and RTINGS points out its HEPA filter and hour-long battery.

It is $329.99 on Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon, with 3.8 stars from more than 1,300 ratings.

Trade-offs: RTINGS found it heavy at more than 8 pounds and slow to charge, at nearly four hours, and it has no wall mount, though the bent wand lets it stand for storage.

Levoit LVAC-300: lightest

TechGearLab named the Levoit LVAC-300 its Best on a Budget and called it nearly as good as the premium picks, with a score of 75 out of 100. It is light, with a 3.5-pound handheld in TechGearLab’s weighing, and it stands upright on its own, which makes it easy to grab for stairs and quick cleanups.

Levoit lists a 3,000mAh battery good for up to 60 minutes with the crevice tool on Eco, 40 minutes with the floor head and 12 minutes in Turbo, and a HEPA filter. It comes with a mini motorized brush for sofas and bedding, and its third-generation anti-tangle brush keeps hair off the roller. TechGearLab measured 16 minutes on max and 57 on low, the longest max-power runtime of the picks TechGearLab timed.

It is $349.99 on Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon, with 4.5 stars from more than 1,000 ratings and more than 700 bought in the past week.

Trade-offs: TechGearLab had longevity concerns and found it weaker on pet hair in shag carpet, and Vacuum Wars compares it with the cheaper LVAC-200 if you want to save more.

Dyson V8 Cyclone: cheapest Dyson

Photo: Amazon listing

The Dyson V8 Cyclone is the new version of Dyson’s long-running V8, and Vacuum Wars says it may be the best V8 cordless stick vacuum yet: a real update rather than a cosmetic refresh. It is the cheapest way into Dyson’s lineup here.

Dyson says it has 30% more power in the light V8 frame and up to 60 minutes of runtime. The All Floor Cones head de-tangles hair of any length and reveals dust, and a second Motorbar head deep cleans carpet. It runs from a power button instead of a trigger, so you don’t have to hold it down, has three cleaning modes, and its click-in battery can be removed to charge separately.

It is $299 on Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon, with 4.3 stars from more than 200 ratings and more than 2,000 bought in the past week.

Trade-offs: it skips the laser head, particle counter and screen of the V15 Detect, and because it is new it has far fewer long-term reviews than the older V8, which TechGearLab ranked 12th in its test.

Levoit LVAC-200: best value

Photo: Amazon listing

The Levoit LVAC-200 is Vacuum Wars’s best value cordless vacuum and a long-running budget favorite, and Vacuum Wars’s side-by-side test with the LVAC-300 helps show what the extra money buys. On Amazon it has more than 14,000 ratings.

Levoit quotes up to 50 minutes with the crevice or pet tool on Eco, 30 minutes with the floor head and 12 minutes in Turbo. The anti-tangle brush resists hair wrap, the wand lies 180 degrees flat to reach under furniture, three LED lights help you spot dust, and a five-stage filter captures 99.9% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. It comes with a 2-in-1 pet tool and a dusting brush.

It is $139.94 on Amazon, down from $199.99 according to Vacuum Wars, with 4.2 stars from more than 14,000 ratings and more than 2,000 bought in the past week.

Trade-offs: Vacuum Wars rates it 3 out of 5 stars, well below the pricier picks, its floor-head runtime is short, and it is meant for dry messes and lighter, everyday cleaning rather than deep carpet.

Best value: anti-tangle and lies flat, for $139.94.

Bottom line

If you want the best and can spend it, the Dyson V15 Detect is the top pick at both RTINGS and Vacuum Wars, and its laser head and particle counter make it satisfying to use. For most homes, though, the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty is the better buy at about half the price, and its dock means you rarely touch the dirt.

Choose the Shark Stratos Cordless (IZ862H) for lots of carpet, the Levoit LVAC-300 if light weight and stairs matter most, the Dyson V8 Cyclone if you want a Dyson for under $300, and the Levoit LVAC-200 if you just need a dependable quick-cleanup vacuum for under $150.

Whichever you pick, judge the runtime on max power rather than the headline number, and keep the filter and brushroll clean; suction drops fast when either clogs.
