Best Humidifiers (2026): Six Picks Compared, From $31 to $300

Turn on the heat for the first cold night of the season and the air in your home starts drying out fast. Within weeks come the familiar complaints: scratchy throats, cracked lips, itchy skin, static shocks, and nosebleeds. A good humidifier fixes that for the price of a nice dinner out, and it is one of the more useful gifts you can give anyone heading into winter.

The hard part is choosing. Some humidifiers flood a room with fog, others barely move the needle, and nearly all of them get gross if they are hard to clean. We compared six humidifiers you can order today, from the $31.18 Dreo HM311S Smart Humidifier to the $299.99 Venta LW25 Original Humidifier, to show which ones work, which are easiest to live with, and where the extra money goes. Specs come from the Amazon listings and the testing cited below, and prices, ratings, and sales figures are snapshots from Amazon’s U.S. listings on Oct. 24, 2026. Humidifier prices move a lot from week to week this time of year.

What to look for

Ultrasonic or evaporative. Ultrasonic models, like the Levoit LV600S, the Classic 300S, and the Dreo, use a vibrating plate to throw out a visible cool mist. They are nearly silent and cheap to run, but they can over-humidify a room, and with tap water they spray minerals that settle as white dust, so Wirecutter recommends distilled or demineralized water for every ultrasonic pick. Evaporative models, like the Blueair, Canopy, and Venta, blow air through a wet wick or disks. You see no mist, you can fill them from the tap, and they naturally slow down as the air gets humid, but their fans make more noise and wicks need replacing.

The right humidity. More is not better. the EPA advises keeping indoor humidity below 60 percent, ideally between 30 and 50 percent, because damp air feeds mold and dust mites. A built-in humidity sensor and an auto mode that actually holds a target level matter more than raw output. A cheap hygrometer, or the humidity readout on many of the monitors in our CO2 monitor guide, will tell you where you stand.

Cleaning. Every humidifier needs regular cleaning; Wirecutter suggests at least weekly. Look for a top-fill tank with a wide opening, few hidden crevices, and ideally dishwasher-safe parts. This is the single biggest difference between a humidifier you keep using and one that ends up in the closet.

Tank size and room size. About a gallon (roughly 4 liters) gets most bedrooms through a day and night without a refill. Check the listed coverage area against your room, and size up for open living spaces.

Warm mist and kids. Warm-mist modes boil water, so they can feel cozier and are less likely to spread germs, but the heating element gets very hot. Wirecutter notes that the Mayo Clinic advises against warm-mist humidifiers around children; stick with cool mist in a nursery.

How we chose

Expert testing first. We started from the current picks of Wirecutter (updated Oct. 6, 2026), which named the Levoit LV600S, Levoit Classic 300S, Dreo HM311S, Blueair H35i, and Venta LW25 among its favorites, and Popular Mechanics (updated March 10, 2026), which named the Classic 300S its best overall and Canopy’s humidifier the easiest to clean.

Then what people actually buy. The Dreo had more than 1,000 purchases in the past week and the LV600S more than 500, and both were inside the top 1,000 of all of Amazon’s Home & Kitchen products when we checked.

And only what ships now. Every pick is in stock on Amazon today and ships from Amazon. We dropped one expert favorite, Vornado’s EV3 evaporative humidifier, because Amazon showed it as unavailable.

Levoit LV600S: best overall

Levoit LV600S warm and cool mist humidifier in white with its app shown on a phone
The Levoit LV600S Smart Hybrid Ultrasonic Humidifier with its VeSync app.

The Levoit LV600S Smart Hybrid Ultrasonic Humidifier is Wirecutter’s top pick and the humidifier most people should buy. It is one of the most powerful models Wirecutter has tested, raising the humidity in a small room by about 24% in two hours, and, unusually for an ultrasonic humidifier, its auto mode kept the room within 5% of the target for three days without turning it clammy. It is essentially silent, the bright display has a sleep button that turns the light off, and the VeSync app lets you set schedules or use Alexa and Google Assistant.

It is also easy to fill and clean by ultrasonic standards. The 6-liter (1.6-gallon) tank lifts out with a folding handle, the lid comes straight off, and the wide opening fits under most faucets. Per the Amazon listing, it covers rooms up to 753 square feet, runs up to 50 hours per fill, offers warm or cool mist plus an essential-oil tray, and carries a two-year warranty. Amazon sells and ships it at $100.28, and more than 500 were bought in the past week.

Trade-offs: like every ultrasonic model, it needs distilled or filtered water to avoid white dust, and the base has corners that take some scrubbing. The warm-mist heater gets dangerously hot, so keep it away from kids and pets.

Our best overall pick: a powerful, quiet 6-liter smart humidifier with warm or cool mist, for $100.28.

Levoit Classic 300S: best value

Levoit Classic 300S humidifier with a blue 6-liter tank and its app on a phone
The Levoit Classic 300S Smart Humidifier has a 6-liter top-fill tank.

The Levoit Classic 300S Smart Humidifier is Wirecutter’s runner-up and Popular Mechanics’s best overall humidifier, and at today’s price it is the bargain of this list. Wirecutter found it “just as powerful and reliable” as the LV600S, with the same 1.6-gallon top-fill tank and a smart auto mode that helps keep the room from getting too humid. It adds a pleasant night-light that is easy to switch off.

Popular Mechanics found a full tank lasted 55 hours on low, 30 on medium, and 18 on high. Per the Amazon listing, it covers up to 505 square feet and runs up to 60 hours per fill. Amazon sells and ships it at $41.10, well under the $80 both guides list it at, with more than 100 bought in the past week.

Trade-offs: the four buttons are labeled only with icons, and you need the app for some features. Wirecutter has heard from readers and staffers whose tanks started leaking after a few months. There is no warm mist, and like any ultrasonic model it should get distilled water.

Dreo HM311S: best budget and best for nurseries

Dreo HM311S cube-shaped smart humidifier in black with a glowing blue light
The Dreo HM311S Smart Humidifier with its night-light on.

The Dreo HM311S Smart Humidifier is Wirecutter’s budget pick: simple, attractive, and one of the rare ultrasonic models that will not over-humidify a room. In Wirecutter’s tests, its auto setting held a consistent humidity level for three days straight. The top-fill tank and basin have smooth surfaces with no odd crevices, the onboard controls are just auto, night-light, power, and mist level, and app setup is easy. The built-in night-light makes it a natural fit for a nursery.

Per the Amazon listing, the 4-liter tank runs up to 36 hours, noise can be as low as 28 decibels, and it works with Alexa and Google Assistant. Dreo’s one-year warranty extends to 30 months when you register it, per Wirecutter. Amazon sells and ships it at $31.18, and it is the bestseller of this group, with more than 1,000 bought in the past week.

Trade-offs: the tank has no handle, and it is sized for bedrooms and small living rooms, up to about 300 square feet per the listing. It needs distilled or filtered water, like the LV600S and Classic 300S.

Blueair InvisibleMist H35i: most sanitary

Blueair InvisibleMist H35i humidifier on a nightstand beside a bed, about 9.3 by 13.8 inches
The Blueair InvisibleMist H35i Humidifier is sized for a nightstand.

The Blueair InvisibleMist H35i Humidifier is Wirecutter’s pick for cleanliness and sanitation, and “the most sanitary humidifier” it has tested. It is the only model Wirecutter recommends with a dishwasher-safe tank, it has a UV light built into the water pump, and an auto-dry mode runs the fan on low to dry the wick when you are done. As an evaporative model, it fills from the tap and naturally keeps humidity in check: even when Wirecutter let it push a room to about 75%, the room never got that musty, clammy feel.

It is also the only evaporative humidifier Wirecutter has tested with smart features, and its app is clean and pushes no upsells. Per the Amazon listing, the 3.5-liter tank runs up to 48 hours and covers up to 500 square feet, and the antimicrobial wick lasts about six months, much longer than most. Blueair covers it for three years when you register. Amazon sells and ships it at $95.02, down from the $150 Wirecutter lists.

Trade-offs: the fan makes it louder than an ultrasonic model, though Wirecutter measured it well below conversation level, and the 0.9-gallon tank is a bit small for big or very dry rooms. Replacement wicks are an ongoing cost.

Our most sanitary pick: an evaporative smart humidifier with a dishwasher-safe tank, for $95.02.

Canopy Bedside Humidifier 2.0: best for the bedside

Canopy Bedside Humidifier parts in a dishwasher and being filled with tap water
Most parts of the Canopy Bedside Humidifier 2.0 go in the dishwasher.

The Canopy Bedside Humidifier 2.0 is the humidifier for people who hate cleaning humidifiers, and the most giftable one here. Popular Mechanics named Canopy’s humidifier the easiest to clean: all the plastic parts go in the dishwasher, a UV light treats the water, and in a closed 150-square-foot room it raised humidity from 47% to 55% in two hours with no visible mist. The 2.0 version adds a larger, quieter fan, a white-noise setting, sleep and reading lights, and stronger aroma diffusion.

Per the Amazon listing, the 2.5-liter tank runs up to 36 hours and covers up to 500 square feet, sensors keep the fan running until the unit is dry to inhibit mold, and the tank, tray, grill, spacer, and cap are dishwasher safe. It fills from the tap and comes with a 60-day guarantee. It is sold by Canopy and shipped by Amazon at $159.00.

Trade-offs: it is expensive for its tank size, and Popular Mechanics found the paper filter needs replacing about every six weeks, roughly nine a year with year-round use, which adds to the cost. Its 4.0-star rating is the lowest here.

Best for the bedside: a mist-free, dishwasher-safe humidifier with a reading light and white noise, for $159.00.

Venta LW25 Original: best for bigger spaces and less cleaning

Venta LW25 Original evaporative humidifier in white, seen from above at an angle
The Venta LW25 Original Humidifier is roughly a 1-foot cube.

The Venta LW25 Original Humidifier is pricey, but it has been a Wirecutter pick since 2014 because it asks less of you than any other humidifier. Instead of a wick, a rotating stack of disks spins through the water. With the included antimicrobial additive, you rinse it and add more formula only once every two weeks, rather than twice a week. The 2-gallon tank needs refilling less often, and Wirecutter measured powerful, consistent humidification on just 7 watts.

Per the Amazon listing, it covers spaces up to 430 square feet, uses no filters, is safe with tap water, shuts off automatically when you lift the lid, and carries a two-year limited warranty. It is sold by Venta and shipped by Amazon at $299.99.

Trade-offs: beyond the price, Wirecutter estimates the additive at about $30 a bottle, roughly $100 a year. Venta sometimes calls it an “air washer,” but Wirecutter warns it is not an air purifier. There is no app or humidity readout.

Best for bigger spaces and less cleaning: a filter-free 2-gallon humidifier, for $299.99.

Bottom line

For most homes, the Levoit LV600S Smart Hybrid Ultrasonic Humidifier is the best humidifier: strong, quiet, and steady on auto, for $100.28. If you want to spend less, the Levoit Classic 300S Smart Humidifier gets you nearly the same performance for $41.10, and the Dreo HM311S Smart Humidifier is a great nursery or bedroom pick at $31.18. If you would rather skip distilled water and white dust, the Blueair InvisibleMist H35i Humidifier is the cleanest option at $95.02, the Canopy Bedside Humidifier 2.0 is the easiest to clean and the best gift at $159.00, and the Venta LW25 Original Humidifier is the low-maintenance choice for a big room at $299.99.

Whichever you choose, aim for 30 to 50 percent humidity, and clean it weekly.
