Today’s puzzle is a little different: there’s only one picture. At first glance it’s a cozy clockmaker’s workshop late at night, but five things in this scene could never happen. Take your time and look closely at the workbench, the wall, the window and the shadows.
The puzzle
Somewhere in the workshop are exactly 5 impossible things. Each one is small, but once you see it, it’s clearly wrong.
Can you find all 5 impossible things in the clockmaker’s workshop?
Show hint
Two of them are on the workbench, one is hanging on the wall, one is up in the window, and one is down on the floor. Check how things fall, burn and cast shadows.
Show answer

Here are the 5 impossible things:
- Candle: the flame on the workbench candle points down toward the wick instead of up.
- Moon: a bright star shines through the dark part of the crescent moon, where the unlit moon should block it.
- Shadow: the cat’s shadow on the floor has a long dog snout and a wagging tail, while the cat itself is sitting still.
- Brass triangle: the brass ornament on the wall beside the window is an impossible triangle. Its three bars join in a way no real object could.
- Hourglass: the little hourglass at the end of the workbench has its sand piled against the top, with the stream flowing upward and the bottom bulb empty.
The clocks, gears, books, staircase and rooftops outside are all as they should be. Found all five? Come back tomorrow for a new puzzle.
